A four-year standout at linebacker for the Tiger football team from 1969-72, Carl Perkins ’73 was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991.
 
Perkins was a first team All Mason-Dixon Conference selection in 1970 and 1971. One of the team’s tri-captains in 1972, he was also named first team all-state as a sophomore and junior. In addition he was an honorable mention all-state and all-conference pick. After graduating from Towson, he served as a Tiger assistant football coach under Phil Albert for five years.
 
Later he served as the head football coach at Howard County’s Centennial High School for eight years. He also coached lacrosse at Centennial for 13 years. A member of the secondary school physical education evaluation team, Perkins has been a member of the Howard County Physical Education advisory board. He has participated in the NASA Teacher in Space program and is volunteer diver at the National Aquarium in Baltimore.
 
After leaving Centennial in 1991 Perkins earned a Masters degree in administration and supervision of secondary schools. He served as principal of two middle schools before returning to Centennial as its principal. He completed his doctorate in Urban Education Leadership from Morgan State University. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and McDaniel College and is an education consultant for charter schools in Anne Arundel as well as Prince George counties.
