A key member of the 1976 Stagg Bowl team, Mike Bennett '76 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 1995.

A transfer from the University of Virginia after two seasons, the Havre de Grace, Md., native caught 46 passes for 761 yards and four touchdowns in two years.

As a senior on the Stagg Bowl team, he was Towson’s second-leading receiver during the regular season with 31 receptions for 560 yards and a team-high 18.0 yards per catch. He also threw two touchdowns on option plays during the season.

In the Tigers’ postseason drive to the national championship game, he led Towson with 15 catches for 249 yards – a 16.6 average. He also caught three touchdown passes in the post-season, including two in the fourth quarter of the Stagg Bowl as Towson overcame a 28-0 deficit to tie the game in the final minutes.

Honored as the Tigers’ Offensive Player of the Year as a senior, he was also the winner of the Maryland College Scholar-Athlete Award presented by the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame.
