Hall of Fame
A three-year captain for the Towson football team, Jim Sandusky '75 was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992.
During his four years, he helped the team go from 1-9 in 1972 to 10-0 in 1974. In his three years as co-captain, Towson posted a 20-8 mark. He remains the only player in Towson history serve as team captain three years in a row.
Sandusky was named as a first team All-Mason-Dixon Conference linebacker in 1973 while earning first team all-state honors twice. During his career at Towson, he also played tight end and totaled 24 pass receptions for 374 yards and two touchdowns. He scored a touchdown off an interception and 35-yard return against Hampden-Sydney in 1973. It then marked only the second time in Towson history a Tiger defensive player had returned an interception for a touchdown.
After graduation, he had a free agent tryout with the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL and was one of the team’s final cuts.
A member of the Towson Athletic Fund Board of Directors, he was also very active in the Towson Football Alumni Association. He served as a volunteer and coach in recreation programs in the Towson area. His father, John, was an assistant coach in the NFL for over 30 years, and his brother, Gerry, a 1982 Towson graduate who played football and basketball for the Tigers, works for WBAL-TV.
